IMAP allows you to access your inbox in real time with any e-mail program of your choice. Any actions (e.g. delete, move an email etc.) will be conducted directly on the server.
Many mail programs have difficulties linking the IMAP folders with the folders of your GMX Inbox because these programs use their own folder names which cannot be changed (e.g. "Trash" instead of "Deleted Items"). The email programs Apple Mail, Windows Live Mail and Thunderbird can link all folders.
